Feeding Ourselves, Building Resilience

We are all casting about these days for what we can do in the face of this crisis. The Treasure Valley Food Coalition is putting together a campaign called “Feeding Ourselves, Building Resilience”.

The first goal of this campaign is to encourage everyone to plant a garden this year – a Resilience Garden. These gardens will accomplish several things: provide food, give all of us something very meaningful to do, and network the community into a common goal of feeding ourselves.

Victory Gardens in World War II provided nearly 40% of the nation’s fruits and vegetables by 1945. If we start now, we can get a good start on that figure. We are very fortunate to be at the beginning of the growing season, but there is no time to waste.

TVFC’s campaign is just an umbrella to link people to resources and to inspire community. People can belong to the campaign and call it their own. This is not a top-down effort. We hope everyone will join with their neighbors and local farmers to grow as much food as possible this year.
